Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, covers an area of 1500 square km. With more than a thousand limestone peaks soaring from its crystalline emerald water this area is one of the natural wonders of Vietnam and now one of four World Heritage listed sites in Vietnam. Visitors have constantly marveled at Halong Bays natural beauty. The tiny islands are dotted with innumerable beaches and grottoes created by the wind and the waves that make a excellent backdrop for swimming or just lazing about on the boat deck.
A trip to Cat Ba island can be separated or combined with a visit to Halong Bay. This is the largest island in the Cat Ba Archipelago that consists of 350 limestone outcrops adjacent to Halong. This is an oasis where you can be apart for one or a few days during a long voyage. With an area of 356 square km wide, Cat Ba encompasses forested zones, coastal mangrove and freshwater swamps, beaches, caves, and waterfalls.
Quan Lan Commune House: located in the center of Quan Lan Island. The commune house commemorates General Tran Khanh Du, a great general, who was successful in the resistance against the Nguyen Mong invaders (13th century) and is worshipped as a Tutelary God of the village. Dieties of the island of ‘Duong Khong Lo’ and ‘Tu vi Thanh Nuong’ are also worshipped. The architecture of Quan Lan commune house is typical of the old and precious architecture of Viet Nam, with a characteristic wooden floor. * Quan Lan Pagoda: is adjacent to Quan Lan Commune House. It is dedicated to Buddha, Princess Lieu Hanh and Mr. Hau who supported the building of the Pagoda. * Quan Lan Shrine: includes 3 shrines dedicated to 3 brothers of Pham, King Tran Khanh Du's general, who struggled bravely and sacrificed themselves in the Van Don victory against Nguyen Mong invaders in 1288. * Van Don marine tourist resort: includes Ngoc Vung, Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Bai Tu Long National Park and Bai Dai.
